Thinking about life in East Pattaya? If you've been searching for a community with a more relaxed, outdoor-focused vibe, let me introduce you to one of my favorite spots: Mabprachan Lake.
While most people call it a lake, it's actually Mabprachan Reservoir, a vital resource that supplies fresh water to much of the Pattaya area. But it’s so much more than just a utility; it's the active, beating heart of the community. It's where I go to clear my head, get a good workout in, walk my dogs, and catch up with friends over a great meal.
If you're wondering what a typical weekend here looks like, let's dive into all the activities you can enjoy around the lake.
One of the best features of Mabprachan Lake is the dedicated 10 kilometer track that circles the entire reservoir. It’s a well-maintained, wide path that’s perfect for all fitness levels.
If you're wondering if Mabprachan is a good place to bring the kids, the answer is yes! At the northeastern part of the lake, you'll find a huge public park. It's a fantastic open space where children can run free, fly a kite, or kick a ball around on the full-size football pitch that's often used for local games.
And when they've burned off all that energy, there's the perfect treat waiting just by the lake. You have to check out The Happy Macaw Ice Cream Bar. They serve the best soft-serve ice cream around, and they even have mini-golf! It’s a favorite for families and the perfect way to cap off an active afternoon.
As a proud dog owner myself, I'm always on the lookout for great places to take them, and Mabprachan Lake is top of the list. The area is incredibly dog-friendly and a true paradise for our four-legged friends.
The wide-open spaces are perfect for a game of fetch, and the walking path provides a great route for a long, leashed walk with plenty of new sights and smells. It’s also a wonderful place for dogs (and their owners!) to socialize. You'll see dogs of all shapes and sizes happily enjoying their day out here.

The fun isn't limited to just the main loop! The Mabprachan area is a hub for other exciting sports. If you're looking to get a bit wet, Thai Wake Park is just on the other side of Highway 7 where you can try cable-driven wakeboarding. For motorsport enthusiasts, there's a free-to-use public motocross track near the northern entrance of the dam where you can watch riders or bring your own bike. And if you're into the world's fastest-growing racket sport, the Pattaya Padel Club is located right opposite the lake, offering fantastic courts with a great view. Looking for a full workout? also right across from the lake, you'll find Sanit Sports Club, a well-equipped, air-conditioned gym.
After all that activity, you’re going to need to refuel. Luckily, the area surrounding the lake is packed with amazing cafes, restaurants, and bars. Whether you’re craving a healthy post-workout smoothie, a strong coffee, or a full sit-down meal, you’ll find it here.
Some of my favorites are the little cafes that offer shady outdoor seating—perfect for relaxing after a walk. In the evening, the lakeside restaurants come alive. There's nothing better than enjoying a delicious Thai or international meal while watching the sky change colors over the water. It’s a truly special dining experience.
Speaking of changing colors, Mabprachan Lake is a spectacular spot for sunsets. Because of its wide-open vista over the water to the west, the views are simply breathtaking. Find a nice spot along the shore, grab a table at a lakeside restaurant, or simply pause along the track. Watching the sun dip below the horizon and paint the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple is the perfect way to end the day. It never gets old.
Living near Mabprachan Lake isn't just about having access to activities; it's about embracing a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. It’s a place where you can connect with nature, stay active, and be part of a vibrant, friendly community. This unique blend of tranquility and activity is why so many expats are choosing to rent or buy homes and settle down in this area of East Pattaya. It's a fantastic location for families, with several international schools nearby, and a golfer's paradise with many courses to choose from. Plus, the excellent highway connections make it a great choice if you work anywhere along the Eastern Seaboard.
If you’re curious about what it’s like to live here, I highly recommend spending a weekend afternoon exploring the lake. You’ll see exactly what I mean.
